Purchases missing in
Meta or GA4?

Short answer

Shopify orders and ad-platform purchases rarely match exactly, but a gap above roughly 10–20% usually means something is broken. The most common causes are tracking code left in the old checkout scripts, duplicate pixels, consent banners blocking marketing pixels, and no server-side backup. Compare one day of Shopify orders against purchase events in each platform to size the gap.

Size the gap first

  • Shopify: Analytics → Reports → Sales over time, one full day, count of orders from the online store.
  • Meta: Events Manager → your dataset → Purchase, same day and time zone.
  • GA4: Reports → Monetization → Ecommerce purchases, or Explore with the purchase event, same day.
  • Some difference is normal (attribution windows, time zones, refunds, blocked browsers). A sudden drop compared with last week is the real warning sign.

7 causes and fixes

  • 1. Tracking code still in old checkout scripts. Move it to the official app (Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube) or to Settings → Customer events.
  • 2. Duplicate pixels. One platform installed twice (app plus custom pixel, or app plus Google Tag Manager) double-counts or deduplicates wrongly. Keep one per platform.
  • 3. Consent banner. Marketing and analytics pixels wait for consent where it is required. Expect fewer browser events from those regions.
  • 4. No server-side events. Browser-only tracking loses purchases to ad blockers and privacy settings. Turn on Conversions API sharing for Meta; for GA4 consider server-side forwarding.
  • 5. App disconnected. A lost login or permission silently stops events. Reconnect and run a test purchase.
  • 6. Checkout or upsell apps. Third-party checkouts and post-purchase pages can skip or repeat the purchase event. Test one full order with each.
  • 7. Time zones and currency. Make sure Shopify, Meta and GA4 use the same time zone and currency before comparing.

Common questions

How big a gap between Shopify orders and Meta purchases is normal?

There is no official number. Many stores see some gap from blocked browsers and attribution settings; a sudden drop compared with your usual gap is the clearest sign tracking broke.

Can I get alerted when purchases stop reaching Meta or GA4?

Yes. PixelPulse monitors Shopify checkout events and alerts you when they stop arriving or when its server-side forwarding to Meta or GA4 fails.
