Free checklist · Black Friday 2026

Black Friday discount code
checklist for Shopify.

Black Friday is 27 November and Cyber Monday is 30 November 2026. Most discount mistakes happen when codes are set up, not on the day. This takes about 15 minutes per code set. Nothing you tick is saved.

Before launch · week of 16 November

Set codes up right.

1. Give every Black Friday code an end date. In Discounts, open the code and set Active dates. Codes with no end date keep working into December.2. Check each code’s Combinations. Each discount says whether it combines with product, order and shipping discounts. Turn off any combination you didn’t plan.3. Limit first-order and welcome codes to one use per customer. Under Maximum discount uses, tick Limit to one use per customer.4. Cap total uses on private and influencer codes. Set Limit number of times this discount can be used in total, a little above what you expect.5. Give each channel its own code. Separate codes for email, SMS and each influencer show you which one spread.6. Set minimum purchase requirements where the offer assumes one. “$20 off $100” needs the $100 minimum set on the discount, not just in the ad.7. Keep site-wide codes off items already on sale. Point the code at specific collections if you don’t want discounts on top of markdowns.8. Test every code before launch. Add products to a cart, apply each code (and each pair you allow to combine) at checkout, and check the final price. You don’t have to pay.

Watch for surprises.

9. Check your top codes’ usage twice a day. The Discounts list shows how many times each code was used.10. Search for your store name plus “coupon”. If a private code shows up on a coupon site, it has leaked.11. Watch for a code suddenly used far more than usual. A common sign it was shared beyond its audience.12. Deactivate a leaked code instead of deleting it. Set an end date of now. Deleting loses the code’s history.

After · 2 December

Close it out.

13. Expire every Black Friday code. On 2 December, check that none is still active.14. Review what you gave away. Use the Sales by discount report in Analytics → Reports and compare it with what you planned.
