Who changed this
product price?
Short answer
Shopify has no per-product price history. The closest built-in tool is the store activity log (Settings → General → Store activity log), which lists recent admin actions with the staff member, app or channel that took them. It shows at most 250 entries, can’t be exported, and covers a shorter period on busy stores. To know about every price change from now on, keep a product export as a baseline or use a monitor that records changes as they happen.
Check what Shopify already recorded
- 1. Open the store activity log. Settings → General → under Resources, click Store activity log. You need the Manage settings permission.
- 2. Filter by time. Look around when the wrong price first appeared (a customer message, an odd order, a sales dip). Each event names the person, app or channel.
- 3. Check apps that write prices. Feed syncs, repricers, currency, B2B and ERP connectors, and bulk-edit apps all change prices through the API. If the log names an app, open its settings and history.
- 4. Check recent orders. Order line items keep the price the customer actually paid, so orders before and after the change show you the old and new price and roughly when it changed.
- 5. Ask your team. Staff bulk edits and CSV imports are among the most common causes. Imports can’t be cancelled once they start, and Shopify keeps no list of past imports.
Know next time
- Export a baseline. Products → Export saves a CSV with every price. Keep one dated copy a week, and one before any bulk change.
- Limit who can edit products. Settings → Users: give product permissions only to staff who need them, and remove access for apps you no longer use.
- Watch price changes as they land. An app that listens to product updates can flag a price that jumps or drops past a threshold within seconds, and keep the last known-good value so you can restore it.
Common questions
Does Shopify have a product change history?
Not per product. Timelines exist for orders, draft orders, customers and inventory transfers. Product edits may appear in the store-wide activity log, which keeps up to 250 recent entries.
Can I export the Shopify activity log?
No. Shopify’s help center says the store activity log is view-only and can’t be exported or downloaded.
How do I get alerted when a product price changes?
CatchSync watches product updates and flags a price change past your threshold within seconds, with the old and new value and a one-click revert (email alerts and store-wide revert on Starter).
